Gwendolyn Harris Scott
Class of 1944
Gwendolyn moved from Sheridan WY to Denver to live with her sister during World War II. She attended Manual for only one year, graduating 1944. The impact of the war included rationing and a program recruiting girls as volunteers for wounded soldiers. The student body was very mixed with Blacks who lived in Five Points, Japanese who moved to Denver from internment camps in California, first-generation Eastern Europeans who lived in Globeville, and boys from an orphanage called Clayton College. Gwendolyn’s senior year at Manual High School as a mix of positive and negative experiences.
Beverly Banta Harris

Beverly recalls her high school years in a detailed interview. She talks about attending Manual High School in the late 1940s, her involvement in extracurricular activities like chorus and band, being in the Thunderbirds pep club, and leading the ROTC as the first female lieutenant colonel.
