Andrew Hudson
Class of 1984Andrew transferred to Manual through the Voluntary Open Enrollment Program. His family had a strong musical background, and he excelled in music at Manual under the guidance of teachers like Mr. Avis and Miss Davis. Manual's small size and partnership with East High School allowed for unique opportunities like shared classes. Andrew also shared his experiences being right at the cusp of the youth gang movement when the Bloods and the Crips became a big deal in the city. Andrew went on to become established as a jazz musician and worked in PR for Mayor Wellington Webb (Class of 1958).
Scott Horsley
Class of 1984Scott attended Manual during the busing years, having been bused in. He enjoyed many of the extracurricular activities offered like theater, newspaper, a tax prep clinic and comic book creation. Attending Manual impacted his adult life. He was involved in the school radio show that influenced his professional path as a journalist. Today, Scott is the Chief Economics Correspondent for NPR.
Annette White Brown
Class of 1986Annette moved to Denver from Albuquerque, NM for her senior year of high school. She graduated from Manual in 1986. Not only was changing school during senior year tough, the gang activity in NE Denver made it even harder. Annette found her favorite class to be sewing where she became proficient at making her own clothes. She also discovered modeling and received a scholarship to modeling school. To make sure she had more than one career opportunity, Annette later attended Emily Griffith to learn accounting. She shared that her Manual class graduated in Boettcher concert hall and coincidentally, she has worked there for the past 11 years in their accounting department (and models part time).
